What a Rotex window actually does

Six things people notice in the first week after the windows go in, and why the construction produces them.

What you notice, in the order you notice it

These are not specifications. They are the things customers tell us about in the first week, and underneath each one is the part of the construction that causes it.

Dust stays outside

Every window closes onto internal and external seals that extend in and out as the handle turns. The result our customers report first is that furniture, curtains and electronics stop needing wiping down every day.

Noise drops away

Double glazing with a sealed cavity, in a multi chamber frame, reduces outside noise by up to 95 percent. Generators, traffic and street noise become something you know is there rather than something you listen to.

The room stays cooler

The same glazing package holds back up to 40 percent of the heat energy arriving with the sunlight, so air conditioning has less to fight and runs for less of the day.

One handle does everything

Lock, turn and tilt are all worked from a single handle. There is nothing to learn and nothing extra to reach for, which matters on a window above a worktop or behind furniture.

You sleep better

Quiet, cool and dust free is not a separate feature, it is what the three points above add up to in a bedroom. It is also the thing customers mention unprompted more than any specification on this page.

Security built in

Controls and locks sit on the inside whichever way the window opens. Tilt and turn hardware carries a sash of up to 120 kilograms on power hinges.

Glass, and what goes between it

Every Rotex window is double glazed. Two panes, a sealed cavity between them, and a gasket system around the edge that the handle draws tight. The cavity is what does the work: it is a poor conductor of heat and a poor carrier of sound, which is why one construction answers both the temperature question and the noise question.

Glass can be ordered tinted or clear. Georgian bars can be set inside the cavity for a traditional divided appearance without the cleaning that real divisions bring.

Colours and finishes

Windows can be made in more than one colour, including different colours inside and out, and laminated for a timber appearance.

Mosquito nets

Removable and sliding insect screens, specified with the window rather than added later.

Burglary bars

External bars where they are wanted, planned with the opening so they do not fight the sash.

Automation

Remote controlled and electronically operated windows, including vertical sliding units.

Bullet resistant

Bullet resistant glazing is available. Ask us for the specification for your situation.

Questions about how they perform

Where do the 95 percent and 40 percent figures come from?

They are the figures Rotex quotes for this construction: up to 95 percent noise reduction and up to 40 percent of the sun's heat energy held back. Both come from the same thing, a sealed double glazed cavity in a multi chamber frame with a gasket system that genuinely closes airtight and watertight.

Will it really keep the harmattan dust out?

Yes, as your windows are closed. This is the difference customers mention first. Every window closes onto internal and external seals that extend as the handle turns, and the reported result is that furniture, curtains and electronics stop needing wiping down every day.

Do I need a special handle for tilt and turn?

Lock, turn and tilt are all operated from a single handle. There is nothing extra to reach for, which matters on a window above a worktop.

How heavy a sash can the hardware carry?

Tilt and turn hardware on power hinges is rated to carry a sash of up to 120 kilograms, which is what makes large openable units possible rather than fixed.

Can I have tinted glass?

Yes, tinted or clear, specified with the order. Georgian bars can also be set inside the cavity for a divided appearance with nothing extra to clean.

Do you make bullet resistant windows?

Bullet resistant glazing is available. Ask us for the specification appropriate to your situation rather than working from a general claim.
